   Birthday parties are such a bittersweet experience – maybe especially when our children are young. Of course, THEY get excited and wound up because of all the presents, the fellow party revelers, the games, the cake and ice cream. Our children KNOW it is their special day. But, for us, their parents, on this special day, find our thoughts flooded with poignant memories that float quietly, like the lone red balloon, recalling that BIRTHday when our precious, oh so pink, wrinkly faced, balled up fists, screaming new life and we met for the very first time.
